Acne Scar Restoration: Restoring Smoothness to Your Face

Kazumi Clinic Team

Acne scars are a concern that requires time and medical techniques to treat. Simply applying creams is usually ineffective. The Acne Scar Restoration program at Kazumi Clinic helps stimulate new collagen production beneath the skin.

What Causes Acne Scars?

Acne scars are caused by the body's recovery process in response to severe inflammatory acne. When acne inflammation penetrates deep into the dermis, the body produces fibrous tissue (fibrosis) that pulls down the upper skin surface, creating an indentation known as an acne scar.

Acne scars are divided into 3 main types, each responding differently to treatment: 1. Ice-pick scar: Deep, narrow scars that look as if punctured by a needle (the most difficult to treat). 2. Boxcar scar: Wide scars with steep, well-defined edges where the width at the surface and the base are relatively equal. 3. Rolling scar: Shallow, wave-like scars without sharp borders, caused by severe fibrous bands pulling down the skin.

Why Do Creams Not Help with Acne Scars?

While skincare or nourishing creams are highly effective for hydration and reducing red or dark spots, they cannot penetrate deep enough to sever the fibrous bands beneath the skin or stimulate the massive amount of collagen required to fill in acne scars. Therefore, effective acne scar treatment relies solely on "medical procedures".

Acne Scar Treatment Techniques at Kazumi Clinic

To achieve optimal treatment results for acne scars, the doctor will employ a combination therapy technique:

  • Subcision (Fibrous Band Release): The core of acne scar treatment. The doctor will insert a tiny, specialized tri-beveled needle (Nokor Needle) beneath the skin to release and sever the fibrous bands pulling down the skin surface. Once the fibrous bands are cut, the skin lifts up.
  • Skin Booster / Collagen Booster: After subcision, the doctor may recommend injecting products that stimulate collagen production, such as Rejuran, Karisma, or HA dermal filler, to fill the space beneath the skin and provide nutrients for the skin to build new tissue, filling the scars completely.

Self-Care Guidelines Post-Treatment

  • Minor bruising may occur from the subcision, which will gradually fade within 7-14 days.
  • Apply nourishing creams that focus on restoring the skin barrier and strictly apply sunscreen.
  • Avoid exfoliating scrubs or using exfoliating acids (AHA/BHA) for the first week.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Can acne scars be 100% resolved? A: According to medical principles, acne scar treatment helps improve skin smoothness by 60-80%, depending on the scar type and individual response. The skin might not return to 100% childhood-like smoothness, but the scars will appear much shallower, making it far easier to cover them seamlessly with makeup. Q: How many sessions are required to see results? A: You will start to notice changes after the first session (scars appearing about 10-20% shallower). We recommend 3-5 continuous sessions, spaced 4-6 weeks apart, to achieve satisfying results.

Medical Note: Results may vary from person to person, and must always be assessed by a doctor before treatment.
